Well hello old friend 👋

Hi, I'm Captain Morgan (that's me with the eye patch and awesome Captain's hat) and I started writing this blog back in early May of 2021. In NFT-land, that's about fifty years ago, and it really does feel like it. In my first blog post I talked about my initial foray into the world of NFT investing, starting with Space Apes, moving onto Bored Apes, and then testing the waters with Meebits.
Later that month I discovered a new project called Gutter Cat Gang that seemed to stand out from the other projects launching at the same time. Reading the first two paragraphs from that post today really brings me back:
With so many new NFT projects launching every week it's becoming increasingly hard to figure out which ones are going to be a hit. Like the rest of you, I don't have a magic crystal ball that gives me the answers, but I'm starting to pick up on some common ground that successful projects share.
On that note, Gutter Cats is the most recent NFT project to catch my eye as it has a lot of similarities to Bored Ape Yacht Club which is arguably one of the most talked about NFT projects out there right now. (full post)
Not too long after that another project caught my eye, it was Pirate-themed and felt like another winner. Pirates and Yeti's taught me a valuable lesson, most projects are going to fail - doing proper DD, and casting a wider net, would be critical to building a strong NFT portfolio.
Then Bored Ape Yacht Club hit a stride, I wrote this post when the floor hit 10ETH, it felt like a dream. As we all know, a lot happened after that - dogs and mutants, ApeCoin, and soon The Otherside, Bored Apes flipped punks and like they say, the rest is history, or history in the making.
Over the last year NFTs changed me and many others lives both financially and socially. Some of the people I've met in my NFT journey have become close friends that I talk to all the time now. Meeting NFT friends IRL is always an amazing experience, the bond we've all built over the last year is pretty special, and as we all have said over and over, "it's still early."
Which brings me back to this blog. I stopped writing back in November of 2021 as life just got too busy. Over the last few months more and more people have been asking me - "are you going to write again?"
The answer is - yes, I am going to write again, I miss it. I don't think I'll be writing as frequently but given how much is going on in the NFT space right now, I'm ready to get back in there and dust off the old keyboard. My goal with this blog has always been to bring you a more personal take on NFT Investing - I don't ever see this becoming a news blog, there are plenty of those out there. Instead, I want to just share my perspective on the NFT market from one investor to another.
Next week I'll be kicking things off with a deep dive into a project that I'm incredibly excited about...but I'll leave you in suspense until then. So whether you started reading a year ago or just subscribed a few weeks ago - I'm back, LFG 🚀
